It is not simple inflammation
Contrary to what the name suggests, chronic epicondylitis is above all a degeneration of the common extensor tendon, with disorganized fibres and small abnormal vessels. This is why anti-inflammatories alone often do not resolve it and targeted treatments on the diseased tissue are needed.
The role of ultrasound
Ultrasound precisely identifies the degenerated area and makes it possible to treat it under direct vision, under local anaesthesia and as an outpatient procedure, avoiding the surrounding vessels and nerves.
The complete pathway
Treatment must be accompanied by correcting the movements that caused the overload and by a programme of eccentric exercises, which represent the most effective part of long-term rehabilitation.
